The first face to face “Annual Meeting of Electors” for electors of the Civil Parish of Tangmere since 2019 will be held at 7pm on Tuesday 26 April 2022 in the Youth Hall at Tangmere Village Centre.
The Annual Meeting of Electors also known as the Parish Meeting is a quirky and potentially powerful bit of local democracy. The meeting is not a meeting of the Parish Council – but, by law, it must be chaired by the Chairman of the Parish Council if that person is present (and by convention the Parish Clerk normally takes the minutes) however, anyone on the electoral role for Tangmere may attend and every elector present has the same status. Electors can ask any question relevant to the residents of the village – and the Chairman and Clerk will do their best to answer on the night.
The meeting should be held every year. The last face to face meeting took place in 2019, there was no meeting in 2020 and the 2021 took place remotely using video conferencing.
